According to UEFA, Lionel Messi has been crowned as the champion of the Champions League only three times, despite having four medals. Barcelona claimed the title in 1992, 2006, 2009, 2011, and 2015. Messi was a member of the Barca team from 2004 and has, therefore, earned four Champions League medals.
However, UEFA doesn't consider Messi a four-time winner of the prestigious club competition. Messi played a crucial role in Barcelona's victories in 2009, 2011, and 2015, but he wasn't a part of the team in the 2006 final.
UEFA's statement has attracted the attention of many soccer fans.
As per the official website of the UEFA Champions League
"Messi has won the Champions League three times – in 2009, 2011, and 2015 (all with Barcelona).
He was also a regular for the Spanish club when they won the trophy in 2006, but he was not part of their squad for the final."
