The reigning champions, Kavango West Region's U20 football team, are gearing up to defend their title at the upcoming Newspaper Cup. Last year, they etched their name in Namibian football history by triumphing over the host team Otjozondjupa with a commanding 2-0 victory.
Today, Kavango West Region U20 Team has officially announced their management team, spearheaded by none other than Julius Simbombo, the mastermind behind last year's victory. The team is set to travel to Omaheke region, Gobabis, where this year's tournament will unfold from March 29 to April 1, 2024.

The Kavango West Football Executive Committee has reinstated Simbombo as the head coach, with Jason Ashimbanga and Paulus Kalenga returning as assistant coach and goalkeeper coach, respectively. Edward Hauwombo will continue as the team manager, while Willem Mpasi steps into the role of technical director, bringing his expertise from last year's delegation.
Joining the technical lineup are Johannes Rugharo as head of delegation, Konrad Nyangana as medic, and Peter Sivangu as kit manager. With the team remaining in the hand of experienced coaching staff, Kavango West is setting its sights on securing consecutive victories.
This year's tournament promises heightened competition and entertainment value, with teams from across the region honing their skills in local leagues.
Notably, Pius Kapwita, last year's top goalscorer, has transitioned to the First Division Team, KK United FC, where he has already made an impact by finding the back of the net.
