After a hiatus lasting over three years, the eagerly awaited NFA Cup made its triumphant return to the football scene

After a hiatus lasting over three years, the eagerly awaited NFA Cup made its triumphant return to the football scene in Windhoek last Friday. The revival comes with a significant boost as betting company PstBet Namibia announced its sponsorship, injecting N$6 million annually into the tournament.

The PstBet NFA Cup is set to kick off this weekend, starting with preliminary rounds held across various regions. Notably, this year's edition will include women's football, marking a step towards inclusivity and equality in the sport.

At the grand launch event, PstBet CEO Steve Hamunyela emphasized the importance of supporting football, citing the recent success of the Namibian national team at the AFCON tournament. He praised the Brave Warriors' performance, which not only qualified them for the prestigious event but also saw them advance to the round of 16, capturing the nation's fervent support.

Hamunyela reiterated PstBet's commitment to investing in Namibian sports, stating that the N$6 million annual sponsorship would cover all event expenses. He expressed optimism about extending the partnership with the NFA beyond the initial one-year agreement, underscoring the company's belief in nurturing local talent and providing opportunities for youth to excel in sports.

The preliminary rounds of the PstBet NFA Cup will feature teams from the first and second divisions across the country, taking place on weekends from March 9th to March 10th, and March 16th to March 17th. Premier League teams will join the competition for the first-round proper scheduled on April 6th and 7th, leading up to the highly anticipated PstBet NFA Cup final on May 25th.
