Former Atlético Madrid striker Samu Omorodion, the Nigerian-Spanish forward, has revealed the emotional turmoil he faced during his time at the Spanish club before making a successful move to FC Porto. In a candid interview with Maca, Omorodion opened up about the difficulties he endured, which led him to question his future in football.

“At Atlético Madrid, I spent many nights crying. my family and my mother also struggled,” Omorodion confessed, describing how isolated he felt during his last days at the club. “I was training separately. I didn’t feel like a part of the team, not like a footballer. I was training, and my mind was telling me otherwise. It was tough, really difficult.”

Despite being close to a move to Chelsea, known as “the Blues,” Omorodion revealed that the deal eventually fell through, causing him to reconsider his football career. “I didn’t move to Chelsea when the deal was almost done, but at the end, it all happens for a reason,” he said. “I wanted to play at Atléti, it was a dream. but they didn’t want me.”

Omorodion credited FC Porto for giving him a fresh start and trusting in his abilities. “I have to say thanks to Porto and the president, as their total trust has made the difference. I’m happy,” he said.

Since joining the Portuguese club, Omorodion has been in sensational form, scoring seven goals in seven games, a testament to his newfound confidence and the backing he’s received at FC Porto.
