In a tragic turn of events, a road accident involving the Chavuma Town Council football team has led to 11 fatalities. The initial incident claimed the lives of four players on the spot, with seven others succumbing to their injuries shortly after, raising the death toll to 11.
The accident happened on the stretch between Lukhunyi and Ndondo in Chavuma District, Zambia as the team was en route to Mufumbwe for a scheduled match. The driver of the mini-bus reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn.
Among those who lost their lives are 10 players and a council worker from Chavuma Town Council. Several other injured team members are currently receiving medical attention.
Chavuma Town Council Public Relations Officer Kamona Lindunda confirmed the tragic incident to Chete FM news, stating that a total of 23 individuals were aboard the vehicle.
The bodies have been transported to the Chavuma District Hospital Mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted. This heartbreaking event has sent waves of sorrow through the community, with condolences pouring in for the bereaved families.
