The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has issued a statement sanctioning Libya after the Nigeria National Football Team reportedly faced poor treatment upon arrival at Benghazi Airport. The Nigerian team was allegedly left stranded and mistreated, prompting CAF to investigate the matter in relation to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Qualifier scheduled between Libya and Nigeria.
Following its deliberations, the CAF Disciplinary Board concluded that the Libya Football Federation had breached Article 31 of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code. As a result:
- Libya has forfeited the match (No. 87) against Nigeria, originally scheduled for 15 October 2024, by a score of 3-0 in favor of Nigeria.
- The Libya Football Federation has been fined USD 50,000, with payment due within 60 days from the notification of this decision.
