Kavango West Governor, Sirrka Ausiku, recently called for support from the business community in the region to aid in the development of sports facilities. The call was made during a welcome remark for the Kavango West region after winning The Namibian Newspaper Cup 2023, a prestigious national tournament in Namibia.
Kavango West region who is the The Namibian Newspaper Cup 2023 champion on football side and finished on fourth place on netball side made history against the odds that they are a newly developing town that is struggling with proper sports facilities.

Speaking about sport facilities, Governor Ausiku urged the town council to award tenders to companies that can actively support the community and emphasized that supporting the community should be a mandatory requirement for companies receiving tenders.
"I'm appealing to our business community and our town council
You are the one giving the tenders to those companies. They must give back to our community, and that is an instruction from today onward" The governor said.
In her speech, Governor Ausiku highlighted the need for sports facilities in the region and stressed that businesses needed to contribute to the development of such facilities. She mentioned that during the tournament held in the Otjozondjupa region, it became apparent that Kavango West was lacking in sports infrastructure when compared to other regions. She pointed out that even the dress code for the team was subpar, with Kavango West being the only region without team tracksuits.
Governor Ausiku also referred to a recent statement by Nambara, in which she expressed disappointment at a company that had only contributed N$10,000 towards the preparation of the tournament, despite making millions from the community. She echoed his sentiments, stating that it was unfair for companies to provide minimal support when they had the means to do more.
Governor Ausiku's call for support from the business community comes at a crucial time when Kavango West is celebrating its victory for The Namibian Newspaper Cup 2023.
The region's success in the tournament has brought attention to the need for improved sports facilities and resources in the area. Governor Ausiku has made it clear that supporting the community is a priority, and she expects companies to actively contribute to the development of sports facilities in the region moving forward
